Cover Reveal For An Upcoming Pirate Romance!! It looks fun!!

Stephanie Hurt - Romance Author

I know I say this all the time, but it’s true. I have the best cover designer. I’ve been working on a new and exciting sub genre in romance, the Pirate Romance. It’s been such a eye opening experience and now we have a visual to go with the snippets I’ve posted. SO here goes:

Safe in the pirate's armsFront Cover

Just looking at it makes me excited. The characters in this book are both challenged in many ways and the sparks that fly will make you just giggle. Well they made me giggle.

The book will be coming out really soon. As I will be on vacation starting Saturday, I plan on finishing the last of this one as I sit on the beach watching the waves. What more inspiration for a Pirate Romance do you need then to have your toes in the sand and the waves coming in.

As always, good writing and…

BLURB:

She fell deeply in love with him in the early days of her childhood. And in return, she captured his heart the moment he first cast his gaze upon her…

Renowned artist, Mariah Jennings hired to paint a thirteenth-century Scottish castle, gets the shock of her life when she encounters the handsome knight who has dominated a lifetime of portraits and sketchbooks.

But Sir Cailen Braithnoch is no ordinary ghost, nor did he suffer an ordinary death. Magic of the blackest kind cast a pall over the knights centuries ago. As the ghost and his lady seek to unravel the paradox surrounding his death, black arts, otherworldly forces, and a jealous rival conspire against them.

Will those forces tear them apart, or is their love destined to last throughout the ages?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
He tilted his head to the side and shrugged. “It wouldn’t have mattered. I didn’t know when I brewed it that you had already given your heart away. And of all th’ stupid, ridiculous things you could possibly do, you gave your heart to a ghost. I should have realized it from th’ beginning when I first laid eyes on your sketches. Therefore, my potion wouldn’t have had th’ desired effect.”
“And you think this new one will?”
“Och, without doubt.” He nodded his confidence. “This one will make you forget any of th’ knights ever existed. Do ye ken? All your memories of them will be gone in th’ mere blink of an eye.”
The arrogant tone roused her temper even further. “Just so you know—there’s not an herb, potion, or magic incantation powerful enough to erase Cailen from my heart. He’s possessed it far too long. You’re wasting your time.”
He shrugged. “We’ll see.”
Though she tried not to show it, Evan’s calm assurance scared her half to death. Her thoughts drifted to Cailen. Surely when he returned to the castle, he would move heaven and earth to find her. If she called out to him periodically, he would hear her. He could find her simply by following the sound of her voice—
“If you’re thinking your knight will rescue you, let me save you th’ trouble of hoping,” he said. “Cailen is not coming back.”
Let’s learn a little about Debbie Peterson:
I am really excited to visit your blog, so thank you very much for the invitation. I know that you have some questions for me, so let the games begin!
Booklover Sue:   What is your writing environment?
My work desk is tucked away inside a room just off my library. Each wall in that room has a specific theme that changes from time to time. Right now I have a Civil War wall (my nod to Spirit of the Rebellion), a Revolutionary war wall (Spirit of the Revolution), and a Medieval-themed wall wherein “The Accolade” by Edmund Blair Leighton is my centerpiece in honor of Spirit of the Knight. At present, I am contemplating what I want to hang on that fourth wall. The possibilities are endless, right? So, anyone care to make a suggestion?
Booklover Sue:   Who is your perfect hero and why?
I have two. First up, my beloved husband is my perfect hero. He is and always has been my greatest friend, my confidant, my protector and my sweetheart. The icing on that cake? In all of our thirty-seven years together, he has never once failed to make me feel deeply loved and incredibly cherished. No wonder you can find a little bit of him in every one of my heroes.
My Dad is the other. He was/is one of the greatest, kindest, patient, most loving men to have ever walked the face of the earth. The world truly needs more men just like him. Enough said…
Booklover Sue:   What authors have caught your interest lately and why?
At the risk of sounding boring—here of late, I have been devouring the works and writers of the classics. Authors such as Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Mary Shelley, and Charles Dickens to name a few. In the past, other books and more contemporary authors have always taken precedence over my desire to read them. Now just seemed like the perfect time to finally indulge that desire!
Booklover Sue:   What type of book have you always wanted to write?
A very, very good one! Of course, I’m such a romantic, I’m afraid the subject matter would still have to fall under the genre of romance coupled with adventure and at least a touch of the paranormal.
Booklover Sue:   Top 3 things on your bucket list?
Before I kick that proverbial bucket, I would really like to visit some of the castles in the United Kingdom that I blog and write about…preferably without any other tourists in the vicinity. I would also love to travel to all of the countries that make up the ancestral blood flowing through my veins. Now, in regards to that ancestry, I would finally like to solve the mystery surrounding Reuben Wallace and Amy Grimes (My great-great grandparents) before I meet them on the other side…
Booklover Sue:   How did you get the idea for this particular novel?
I suppose simply from my love of castles and “knights in not-so-shining armor.” I have several such stories floating around inside my head. Now having said that, I will also tell you that Sir Cailen is a minor character in Spirit of the Revolution. He was so much fun to write that I knew he needed a story of his own.
Booklover Sue:   What is your favorite scene in your new release?
I thoroughly enjoyed writing every page of “Spirit of the Knight,” so narrowing down a favorite scene is nigh on impossible. Now having said that, I do have a soft spot for the scene in which Mariah realizes her knight truly exists.
Booklover Sue:   What are you working on now and when can we expect it to be available?
At the moment I am working on my revisions for “Court of the Hawk,” which is a fantasy romance surrounding a lost kingdom. Hopefully it will be available sometime in 2015.
Booklover Sue:   What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I have a passion for genealogy. I love uncovering the lives and loves of my ancestors and spend quite a bit of my time (probably far more than I should) doing just that.
Booklover Sue:   What would you consider a perfect date?
My idea of the perfect date is a long, hand-in-hand walk underneath the stars, a glorious sunset or even a spectacular sunrise. That walk could take place on a sandy beach, meadow, park, or even the mountains. Such a setting gives one the unfettered ability to speak of things of the heart. I can’t imagine anything better.
Booklover Sue:   What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?
I hate speaking in public… It’s just not something I do well.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Debbie has always had a soft spot for fairy tales, the joy of falling in love, and happily ever after endings. Stories of love and make believe filled her head for as long as she can remember. However, it was her beloved husband who encouraged, cajoled and inspired her to take up a pen and write some of them down. Her journey to published author could fill quite a few pages. However, in June of 2010, she submitted her debut novel “Spirit of the Rebellion” to her wonderful, patient, editor at The Wild Rose Press and the rest is history. She now has five published novels to her credit.
When she is not busy conjuring her latest novel, Debbie spends time with the members of her very large family, within the lovely, arid deserts of southern Nevada. She also pursues her interests in family history, mythology, and all things ancient and historic.
Interviewing the Characters from Spirit of the Knight!/Spirit Of The Knight Book Tour Continues!!
You’ll find me at two stops this week as we wrap up the month of July in our Spirit of the Knight book tour and giveaway. Please drop by and say hello for another chance to win our fun prizes!
1. Booklover Sue asks questions and I answer!
2. Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock leaves you with a five fang Review…you can’t ask for better than that!
Warning! There are some spoilers ahead, so don’t read the answer if you don’t want to know!
For the past several weeks, a lot of questions for Cailen, Mariah, and the Knights have trickled in (thank you all very much for participating, it really warms my heart). So, I thought it time to get some of them answered!
Eilean Castle by Remi Mathis
All right Sir Cailen Braithnock, we have some questions for you. Are you ready?
“Aye, ready and waitin’…”
Tammy wants to know if you wanted to follow Mariah to the pub when she met Evan for dinner or were you content to wait for her return?
“Ye dinnae know how badly I wanted to follow. I must confess I had this overwhelmin’ need to keep a close eye on Evan after his intentions concernin’ Murriah became obvious. Nonetheless, I felt it would be discourteous to go when she didn’t extend me an invitation.”
Always the chivalrous knight, I see! Next question – what were your thoughts when you first saw the bridge that Mariah had sketched?
“All of the sketches she showed me that day seemed impossible. I couldn’t fathom how she could draw me with such perfection when she had never seen me and I had lived my mortal life centuries earlier. Depictin’ me in th’ places I favored only added to th’ mystery. To this day we talk and wonder about th’ miracle of it.”
All right, one more question just for you. What kind of relationship did you have with Beth?
Mariah turns her gaze toward her beloved knight and lifts a brow? “Yes, do tell, my love…we’re all ears!”
Cailen chuckles as he takes hold of Mariah’s hand and tugs it onto his lap. “Nothin’ for ye to worry about, my lady. Though she may have wished it otherwise, I always kept th’ woman at arms length. She didn’t possess a single quality that would make me desire anythin’ more than friendship, and there were times, she even tested th’ limits of that.”
You seem pleased enough with the answer Mariah, so here’s a question for you! When Cailen told you about the visit Jolena Michaelsson and Mathias McGregor made to the castle, did you wonder if you and Cailen could have the same kind of relationship?
Mariah returns a slow nod. “Once he told me about the visit, I gave it a great deal of thought. The love I had for Cailen increased each day, and I wanted nothing more than to remain at his side forever. Yet, Jolena didn’t have the restrictions I had to face. She lived with her ghostly love, while I did not. Overcoming the obstacle of place and boundaries seemed all but impossible at times.”
Well, I’m glad you finally found a way. A couple of readers want to know what you were thinking when you fully explored Cailen’s hand after your nightmare – and what the differences were?
“This is so hard to explain, because it’s more of a sensory thing. But if you would close your eyes and explore another’s hand, you would feel the various joints and if asked, point them out. The same type of thing existed in Cailen’s hand. I could feel the joints and note the difference in texture between those joints and the rest of his hand. Before I made that discovery, I thought the nature of spiritual matter would all feel the same.”
I think I would have too!  Thanks for the clarification. One more question today, and I’ll save the rest for next time.
“Okay…”
Did you think that perhaps you lost Cailen after the vortex sucked him out of the car?
Mariah turns toward Cailen, and for a moment they simply gaze at each other. She takes in a deep breath. “That’s not a memory I like to recall. But in answer to your question, I did and I hope I never have to feel that kind of pain again. I had never seen anything like it and when the mist disappeared with Cailen in tow, I had to face the very real possibility that I would never seen him again. You can’t imagine the joy that filled my heart when I returned to the castle and found him there.”
I think we all experienced your relief.  Thanks Mariah!
Now just a couple of questions for our rowdy knights and then we’ll save all the rest of them for next week…
Meg wants to know at what point did you know that Mariah was off limits in a romantic sort of way? Anyone care to answer that one?
At once a chorus of voices answer and it is quite impossible to sort them all out. Duncan leaps to his feet and quiets the crowd with a simple wave of his hand. “As Cailen’s lieutenant, I’ll take that one, if it’s all the same to ye?”
Please feel free…
Duncan shifts his gaze to Cailen and flashes a mischievous grin. “We found it obvious th’ verra moment Murriah stepped out of th’ car on the day of her arrival. Th’ lass looked quite comely in her white skirt and form fittin’ jacket. We couldn’t help but ogle at th’ sight she made. Yet, naught but an instant later we took note of th’ look on Cailen’s face. That look all but dared any of us to take a second look…”
The knights burst out laughing as they nodded and jabbed each other and I found myself joining in the laughter… All right, just one more question today for the boys and then I’ll ask you all to come back next week!  This questions is related to the first – Lynn wants to know what you all thought of Cailen’s interest in Mariah, since he is a ghost, and she is a mortal?
“I’ll answer that one for you,” Stephen hollered out above the roar. “Though this might surprise ye, the growin’ relationship between Cailen and Murriah seemed quite natural. Believe me when I tell ye that we were cheerin’ them on and hopin’ for a forever kind of happily ever after!
Do did we, Stephen, so did we!  See you all same time next week…and…if YOU have a question for any one of our characters, you can still ask it in the comments below or shoot me an email!
