EXCERPT
The idea one could dream and take part inside another dream never once occurred to Aliyana. Nor, had it ever happened to her before. Yet, she couldn’t find any other explanation for this bizarre experience. She found herself in a strange bed, gazing at a very handsome, broad-shouldered, well-muscled man. The tall, handsome man in question had light brown, shoulder length hair, which he combed back away from his face. His short, well-trimmed beard and mustache seemed darker than his hair or at least it did in this light. He had incredible sky blue eyes, infectious laughter, and a dimpled smile that would melt the iciest heart.
The only trouble with this picture? The form-fitting black doublet he wore looked like something straight out of ‘The Three Musketeers,’ minus the ridiculous broad-brimmed, large feathered hat. And—she wouldn’t be surprised to find him onboard the ship she encountered just before her plane collided with that massive rock. If any of that really happened.
On top of all that, he just told her to call him ‘Wolf’ using a very charming Germanic accent, probably Dutch, gauging from his surname. Okay, Wolf, from which part of my scrambled brain did I conjure a man like you? She closed her eyes once again. Perhaps in so doing she could escape this whacky dream altogether and wake up somewhere else. Some place a little more normal.

First, I would like to thank my very lovely hostess for inviting me to her wonderful blog! She has asked me to share the inspiration behind Shadow of the Witte Wieven with all of you today. That made me happy because this is a story I really like to share with my readers and it goes something like this:
One fine day, while perusing a gallery of various portraits, I came across a painting of a wild storm over an ocean. The colors used by the artist were fabulous. He used vivid purples and varying shades of gray to paint the clouds. He had white capped waves rising up out of the dark blue waters. To cap it off, he painted a breathtaking burst of lightning that lit up both sky and sea. This painting literally gave me shivers that raced up and down my spine. While I studied it, one thought led to another and somewhere along the way, they settled on the Bermuda Triangle myths. Those myths always mention an unearthly storm that engulfs its victim, do they not? At that moment, my imagination took over. I could suddenly see a 17th century ship emerging out of the mist.
I wondered then what would happen if that ship, which had endured and survived such a storm during the 17th century, reappeared in modern day. Better yet, what if that ship all but collided with an airplane in trouble seeking a place to land? What if the pilot happened to be a very lovely American DEA agent–working deeply undercover–who not only had to escape a drug cartel, but also needed to save the lives of the government officials for whom she worked?
What if the very handsome captain of that 17th century ship, with some unique skills of his own, offered to help our very independent, self-sufficient heroine in her quest?
With those thoughts in mind, Shadow of the Witte Wieven was born. I had a lot of fun writing this book. As with all of my stories, my characters emerge with a will of their own. They often say and do things that I don’t always expect, and this definitely occurred in this story. For those who choose to read it, and I hope all of you do, my wish is that you have as much fun reading it, as I did writing it!

Debbie has always had a soft spot for fairy tales, the joy of falling in love, and happily ever after endings. Stories of love and make believe filled her head for as long as she can remember. However, it was her beloved husband who encouraged, cajoled and inspired her to take up a pen and write some of them down. In 2012, The Wild Rose Press published her first novel, “Spirit of the Rebellion.”
When she’s not busy conjuring her latest novel, Debbie spends time with the members of her very large family. She also pursues her interests in family history which she also teaches, mythology, and all things ancient and historic.
